Early Learning Resources
There is increasing evidence to show that a child's cognitive development and potential for learning is at its highest during the early years. Parents are their child's first and mo
st effective educators. They, and the home environment, have a crucial impact on a child's development and learning chances
Craft Bags
Our craft bags are a proving a hit with our volunteers and their families.
Craft bags are available for volunteers to take along and enjoy with Home-Start families. These provide a great opportunity to have some fun, encourage parents to engage with their children and develop essential skills in children.
The bags have been a great success with some parents who had never before enjoyed craft activities with their children, now including it in their regular routines.
Story Sack Resources
What is a 'Story Sack'?
A Story Sack is a large cloth bag containing a good quality child's picture book with supporting materials to stimulate reading activities.
The Aim:
The aim of the Story Sack is to give parents the confidence to enjoy books and reading together with their child, thus creating a combined experience.
Staff and volunteers have come together at Home-Start Wirral to create Story Sacks for volunteers to share with our families who we support. We have created artwork, sourced materials and developed games resulting in a selection of wonderful hand made Story Sacks.

Maximising Income Project
If you find it hard to make ends meet, you are not alone. Thousands of families are having trouble paying their bills. Many feel they need to keep quiet about it and many find the stress very difficult to cope with. We can help. Funds do exist to help families. It is in lots of different places and it can be hard to find. Home-Start has found a new way to help.
We can help you find out if there is more money for your family. It may be a little, it may be a lot, but every penny helps. Home-Start volunteers have been trained to use the services of Turn2us, to help you find out about the welfare benefits, tax credits, grants and other help available to your family. The support you receive from your Home-Start volunteer will remain confidential. Home-Start volunteers will never tell anyone else that they have helped you in this way, unless you want to give your consent. We can help. Just speak to your Home-Start Co-ordinator or to your volunteer.

I would suggest that this course be available to other staff from CYPD and other agencies. Maria was so knowledgeable and engaging. Really useful and would recommend this training... Thank you very much for the opportunity to train with your volunteers. I'm honoured and the welcome was fab. Thank You
Area Team Leader
Families appear to find Home-Start a very acceptable service. The volunteers are caring, supportive and non-judgmental. Work around play skills is particularly valuable.
